My Super Bowl Commercial and the 17th Annual Puppy Bowl
If you missed my latest television commercial during the second quarter of Super Bowl LV, go to my Instagram page @MarthaStewart48 right now to see it!
Last month, I traveled to Los Angeles to shoot the spot for Miracle-Gro. It involved several other familiar faces including Leslie David Baker, Carl Weathers, NASCAR driver Kyle Busch, fitness instructor Emma Lovewell, and John Travolta, dancing with his daughter, Ella. The commercial is an ode to backyards and all the great activities that happen there - gardening, lawn work, barbecuing, exercising, relaxing, or, in the case of John and his daughter, making a dance video.
While there, I also hosted the 17th annual Puppy Bowl with my good friend, Snoop Dogg. It aired yesterday on Animal Planet and via Discovery+ before the "Big Game" - I hope you watched it! The Puppy Bowl featured 70 puppies from 22 different shelters up for adoption - and all of them were placed in forever homes before the game ended. It was a great event, and I applaud animal welfare organizations who work so hard to place all animals in need.
Here I am in one of the commercial scenes holding up a beautifully grown tomato. Shooting television shows and commercials is difficult during a pandemic, but rest assured, we all tested negative before gathering on set.
My scene shows gardening as one of the activities that can be done in one’s own backyard. Gardening has become even more popular, especially during these challenging months.
I have long used Miracle-Gro’s Osmocote at my farm. Osmocote is a pre-planting, slow release fertilizer.
Osmocote looks like small, round peppercorns with a creamy beige color. Rather than being called granules, Osmocote particles are known as prills. The beige shell on the prill coats a core of nutrients.
Here’s my head gardener, Ryan McCallister, using Osmocote after repotting this big sago palm. the prills are scattered atop the soil or incorporated into the soil. As the plant is watered, the nutrients are mixed in with the soil for plant roots to absorb.
This is an organic and natural plant food formulated specifically for raised bed gardening.
Here is a photo of my vegetable greenhouse in January – I am so thankful to be able to grow so much wonderful produce all year long to share with my family and friends.
Miracle-Gro also makes a coarse potting mix specifically for epiphyte orchids, including Phalaenopsis, Cattleya, Epidendrum, and Dendrobium. We also use this for my plants.
The fast-draining mix feeds plants for up to six months. These are some newly repotted orchids – use the mix when repotting orchid types that require drier conditions between waterings.
Here I am with the well-known international television comedy commercial director at Moxie Pictures, Martin Granger, going over my scene for the commercial.
And here’s a quick photo of me and the crew – Connor Bryant, Mike Pierentozi, and Chloe Heller from VaynerMedia; John Sass from Scott’s; Martin, Heidi Stoletz also from Moxi Pictures, and actor Matt Braunger who starts off the commercial. Again, we all tested negative before the shoot and were very careful – only gathering at the end for a couple of quick snapshots.
And here I am with actor John Travolta. All the celebrities shot their scenes separately in order to remain safe. John and I only saw each other briefly – I had just finished, and he was coming in for a rehearsal. We quickly posed for this photo.
While in California, I also hosted the annual Puppy Bowl. Here I am in my trailer.
I hosted along with my favorite Dogg, Snoop! The Puppy Bowl is an annual television program on Animal Planet that mimics an American football game similar to the Super Bowl, but using puppies. Shown each year on Super Bowl Sunday, the show consists of footage of a batch of puppies at play inside a model stadium. It was so much fun to host this event. I gave him this big shell as a gift.
Which team did you root for? My Team Ruff, or Snoop’s Team Fluff?
During the game, we also had Puppy Bowl-themed snacks, cocktails, and more. Here we are on set showing my new Martha Stewart Kitchen Do-It-Yourself Pigs in a Blanket. They’re available at various grocery stores.
Appropriately re-named “doggs” in a blanket just for the Puppy Bowl, these delicious bites are part of my new line, Martha Stewart Kitchen, which brings delicious, yet convenient, gourmet foods items from your local grocery store to your table for entertaining or everyday use. Have you tried any of my products yet? You’ll love them all.
Snoop is eyeing a few of the “doggs.”
It was a fun Puppy Bowl and a fun time with Snoop Dogg. Be sure to check out Discovery+ and Animal Planet!
