Teachable Moments at American Made!
The second annual Martha Stewart American Made Awards was such an exciting and information-packed two days and there is so much to share with you on my blog. The event was held at the fantastic Andaz 5th Avenue Hotel and at the landmark Grand Central Terminal, where one could shop for handcrafted goods from around the country, including products manufactured by the American Made honorees, both past and present. These photos, for this blog posting, were taken on Day One at the hotel, where fascinating panels and demonstrations took place. As you may know, the American Made Awards salutes and highlights ten up-and-coming entrepreneurs, who have shown innovation and creativity in their respective fields of creating American made goods. In addition to the editors' chosen honorees, one nominated Audience-Choice Award Winner received $10,000 to further their business, as well as a future feature on marthastewart.com. Pick up the November issue of Martha Stewart Living or click here to learn more about our honorees.
Part of the mission of American Made was to invite attendees to learn from me, my editors, and some of the best purveyors across the country. Which is why the event included panels on topics ranging from doing good works to women's leadership. Following these panels—featuring several names and faces I'm sure you'll recognize—I participated in a cake demonstration, teaching spectators many of the techniques featured in my new book, Martha Stewart's Cakes. I hope you enjoy more behind-the-scenes snapshots of educational aspect of American Made.
