I Hosted The Bedford Audubon Society's Centennial Celebration
I am in awe of the many wild birds in our area, from the majestic bald eagles and red-tailed hawks to the diminutive ruby-throated hummingbirds searching for nectar in my garden. So, when it comes to the Bedford Audubon Society, I truly value what this organization does to protect these wonderful creatures. Last Saturday, on a stunning day in Katonah, I hosted a special event – the Centennial Celebration of the Bedford Audubon Society. As a lover of birds and conservation, I was delighted to support the efforts of this organization, which has worked for the past century to preserve wildlife habitats in the greater Bedford community, conduct conservation research, and lead environmental education and native garden programs. The goal of the evening was to celebrate that extraordinary milestone, and to raise funds to keep their work going for another 100 years to come! Laura O’Donohue was honored with the Henry Orr Conservation Award for her dedication to sustainable and organic agriculture, and the bird-friendly practices at her Snow Hill Farm in North Salem. Al Caccese was awarded the Mary Welsh Parker Legacy Award for his commitment to New York's Audubon chapters and helping Bedford Audubon secure a critical easement. This gathering was photographed for a future story in my magazine, but here's a bit of the celebration for you to enjoy.
