A Book Signing for "Martha's Flowers" at the Kips Bay Decorator Show House
If you’re in the New York City area this month and want to see the work of some of the nation’s most acclaimed interior designers and architects, visit the 47th Annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House. The event draws thousands of visitors each year to benefit the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club.
Earlier this week, Kevin Sharkey and I conducted a book signing at the Show House to promote the deluxe edition of “Martha’s Flowers: A Practical Guide to Growing, Gathering, and Enjoying”. Our book signing was held in one of the featured rooms - a sitting room designed by Jeff Lincoln. Our own Martha Stewart Wine Co. also provided a selection of delicious varietals throughout the evening. It was a wonderful event and a very inspiring exhibition of antiques, home furnishings, and fine art.
Enjoy these photos.
Kevin and I are so proud of “Martha’s Flowers”, and so thrilled with this deluxe edition. Divided by season, this book is filled with spectacular photographs and tips for planting, maintaining and arranging all your favorite flowers – many of which are blooming right now. There were stacks of “Martha’s Flowers” on display for guests to purchase for signing – many bought multiple copies. I hope you all have your deluxe edition of my book – it’s one you’ll love to give as a gift and to keep for yourself. (Photo by Carlos Ledesma for Magrino)
First I would sign a copy, and then the book is passed to Kevin to sign. I have signed tens of thousands of books over the years – and I always like to use a colored pen that best coordinates with the colors of the book – it is a detail that is very important to me. Martha Stewart Wine Co. provided some very flavorful selections including Jean Boisselier Bourgogne Aligote 2017, Racine Rose 2017, and Bardolay Pinot Noir 2017. (Photo by Carlos Ledesma for Magrino)
In between signings, I always try to take photos with guests. (Photo by Carlos Ledesma for Magrino)
And I always enjoy talking with guests – it’s a great way for me to meet people and to hear lovely stories of how my books have inspired them over the years. This artist, Elizabeth Fritzpatrick, gave me this painting she did of me and Snoop Dogg. Visit my Instagram page @MarthaStewart48 to see the fun photo I am posting in this image. We signed books in the room decorated by Jeff Lincoln Interiors. This room is anchored by the rug, which is composed of wool and a new silk-like material known as Nulox.

Some of the other decorated rooms include this formal library by Corey Damen Jenkins & Associates. Clean, contemporary furniture is mixed with antiques to add layers of modernity. The stately window panels feature layered peplums dripping with elaborate passementerie. They were inspired by gowns modeled on the Parisian Runway by fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier. The room pays homage “To the Lady of the House, with Love”. (Photo by Marco Ricca)
This dramatic four‐story spiral staircase was transformed by Gluckstein Design. The stairs are under a striking oculus window connecting 12-thousand square feet of space in this Manhattan home. There are four-thousand handcrafted brass cherry blossoms on the 30‐foot suspended mobile that spans all four stories – very eye-catching. (Photo by Nickolas Sargent)
This inviting hall was designed by Studio DB. It showcases deep green walls, rich stone detailing and a curved window seat. (Photo by Matthew Williams)
Eve Robinson Associates call this “A Room of One’s Own” that is soothing, sophisticated and peaceful. The color palette includes soft creams and blushes with gentle curved furnishings. (Photo by Marco Ricca)
Sheila Bridges designed this room. Inspired by sunrise and sunset strolls with her Australian Shepherds, Sheila transformed the area into a welcoming spot for dogs and their walkers. (Photo by Nickolas Sargent)
Christopher Peacock designed the kitchen – inspired largely by his childhood home. The cabinetry is mostly handmade using old school joinery and natural materials. The deep olive green was used in honor of his mom – it was one of her favorite shades of green. (Photo by Nickolas Sargent)
In designing this room, Peter Pennoyer Architects assembled a palette inspired by the wall upholstery fabric – but with a splash of citron. (Photo by Nickolas Sargent)

In this bedroom designed by Charlotte Moss, she uses a variety of colors and patterns – palampore, periwinkle, paisleys and palm trees. Above the fireplace is an eglomise mirror, and for lighting, she uses a Dutch lantern. (Photo by Nickolas Sargent)
This dining room transformed by Cullman & Kravis Associates is called “Rhapsody in Blue”. It features dramatic blue lacquered walls with lots of gold embellishments, as well as vintage and custom‐made furniture, and contemporary art. (Photo by Nickolas Sargent)
Designer Jennifer Cohler Mason created this sitting room to include vintage 1950s lounge chairs and a dramatic palette of blue accent pieces. (Photo by Nickolas Sargent)
And this sitting room shows the work of Paloma Contreras. It displays high gloss millwork, stunning wallpaper panels, and Paloma’s signature “modern‐meets‐traditional” style. The entire exhibition is a fun way to see the work of these distinguished designers and to support the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club in raising funds for afterschool enrichment programs for New York City children. The show runs through May 30th. (Photo by Nickolas Sargent)
