Israel - Day Four
On day four of our visit to Israel, we were in and out of our car quite a bit, as we did a lot more sightseeing. We met our guide, Geoffrey Weill, at 6:30am, and proceeded to drive north to visit Scythopolis, or Bet She’an, one of the Roman Decapolis cities. It was one of the largest towns in Israel 1,800 years ago. Bet She’an was destroyed by an earthquake in the 8th century and was excavated in the 20th. The ruins are breathtaking! We then drove further north to visit the Sea of Galilee and toured Capernaum, the home of the apostle Peter and where Jesus made his home during his ministry. It was also fascinating to drive to the top of the Mount of Beatitudes, a natural amphitheater that was the site of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount.
