Preparing Skylands for a Special Cocktail Reception
Summer is such a wonderful time for outdoor entertaining.
Nearly 200-guests gathered at Skylands last weekend for the College of the Atlantic Champlain Society Reception. It was “all hands on deck” to complete the list of preparations before the guests arrived - shopping, cooking, decorating, and setting-up my large terrace with all the tables and barware needed for the large group. Fortunately, we had a lot of help and everything went perfectly as planned. My friend, Chef Pierre Schaedelin from PS Tailored Events, and I, created a varied menu of hors d’oeuvres, including crab fritters, oysters on the half-shell, and a popular favorite - deviled eggs - ours from quail, topped with delicious wasabi caviar. And, thank you to our friends at Russian Standard Vodka for sending Imperia Vodka to make the very best martinis, and to Château D’Esclans for sending us the essential summer wine, Whispering Angel.
I love entertaining, and it was a pleasure to welcome members of the Champlain Society to my Seal Harbor home. The Champlain Society does a great deal to support the College of the Atlantic, so it can focus on its main missions. Among them, to seed the world with intelligent and creative minds that can address environmental and social challenges; innovate and experiment in how the world educates students; and build Mount Desert Island’s social, and ecological resources.
Here are more of our party-prep photos. Enjoy.
