Pea Trellises for the Farm
It’s springtime, and that means it’s time to plant the outdoor vegetable garden. I am always interested in learning new ways to improve the productivity of the gardens at my farm. This year, I decided to create new trellises for my cucumber and pea crops. My outdoor grounds crew foreman, Chhiring Sherpa, already made a cucumber trellis for the indoor vegetable garden - it was constructed much like a trellis I saw during one of my trips to Maine.
This week, Chhiring made a 70-foot long structure of trellises for the peas using the same concept. And, it was assembled using materials we already had at the farm - a great way to reuse and repurpose. I am so excited to see how our shelling peas, snap peas, and snow peas grow on the new trellises this season. Here are some photos of how it was built. Enoy.
