A Garden Tour for the NYBG School of Professional Horticulture
September garden tours are underway at my farm.
Occasionally, I agree to open my gardens for private walking tours. Most of them are conducted in the spring, but a select few are also scheduled at the end of the season.
Yesterday was the first scheduled September tour, and a lovely group of students from the New York Botanical Garden School of Professional Horticulture came by for a visit. The school has trained some of the world’s leading horticulturists. Through its two-year program, the NYBG combines academics with hands-on training, externships, field trips, and special lectures, to prepare its students for positions in both public and private sectors.
Unfortunately, because of my busy work schedule, I wasn’t able to lead the tour myself, but I did have the opportunity to meet the group, and talk to them about my garden design style, and how my farm has evolved over the years. My head gardener, Ryan McCallister, then guided the walk through the allees and gardens - enjoy these photos.
