If you missed my appearance on the first-ever Mercedes-Benz #ConcoursdeZoom, you can now watch the show on YouTube - just click on the highlighted link.
Recently, I was asked to join this panel of well-known car enthusiasts to talk about our new, vintage, and classic Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The LIVE 30-minute broadcast included comedian Jay Leno, rapper Ludacris, golfer Rickie Fowler, actress Madelaine Petsch, film director Cole Walliser, Bloomberg Businessweek writer Hannah Elliott, Mike Kunz, head of the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center, and myself. We all participated from our homes across the country via the videoconferencing application, Zoom.
I decided to do the LIVE #ConcoursdeZoom from my stable, located at the end of my long Boxwood and these two large American horse-chestnuts, Aesculus hippocastanum. The trees are just beginning to leaf out, but soon, they will have showy bright pink flowers.
Here I am before the broadcast with my Mercedes-Benz GLS550. It’s such a great car. And, although it isn’t getting much use these days, it’s very comfortable to ride especially during my long one-hour commutes into New York City.
This model is an all-wheel-drive vehicle with a 449-horsepower, twin-turbo 4.7-liter V-8 engine.
It’s great in all types of weather and has ABS brakes and driveline traction control. Plus, there is a good amount of headroom and legroom.
The handsome 19-inch twin five-spoke tires are all-season.
I love its maneuverability, but other features and options of this SUV include an air suspension, a power lift-gate, remote start, a power-folding third-row, blind-spot warning, and lane-keeping assist systems.
My dogs love riding in the car – they are very well-behaved in their seats. Here’s Emperor Han, my gorgeous Chow Chow.
And here’s my French Bulldog, Creme Brulee, enjoying all the activity and views from the back seat. What do you see, Creme? Visit my Instagram page @MarthaStewart48 for a cute video of her dozing off while watching.
While Creme looks down the long Boxwood Allee, Bete Noire looks out the other window at the horses. Empress Qin is in the middle. All of them are waiting for the show to begin.
I not only have the horsepower in my car but also in my stable. Here is my handsome Fell pony, Banchunch. He is one of 11 equine residents. In addition to Banchunch, I have five Friesian horses and five donkeys.
On the other side of the huge stable doors is Rinze, looking out onto the courtyard.
The entire day had intermittent showers. At the start of the show, the clouds started to roll in again with a few sprinkles, but the rain was light and didn’t last long.
The doggies sat very patiently the entire time.
I have been extremely busy during this stay-at-home period. I’ve done many media appearances but we’ve had to make do with minimal crew and equipment. I am only assisted by my three friends who have been staying with me at the farm. Ryan holds the iPhone and watches the laptop as the Zoom broadcast begins.
Here are all the panelists connected LIVE with advanced technology – it was great to see everyone.
It ended up being a beautiful evening. This view from the courtyard looks through the paddocks toward my Winter House and long carport in the distance.
How do you like the show, Emperor Han?
A crow watches from the carriage house rooftop and occasionally lets out a series of caw-caws.
After I spoke, I sat in my GLS550 and watched the rest of the ZOOM LIVE – I learned quite a bit about everyone’s cars. Jay Leno also talked about the history of Mercedes-Benz, and how the name originated. Watch the entire show right here – just click above, or on this highlighted link for Mercedes-Benz #ConcoursdeZoom. It’s interesting and informative.
Thanks, Mercedes-Benz, for including me – I had a great time.
