Recently, I visited STORY at Macy’s Herald Square in New York City - one of 36 Macy’s locations nationwide featuring this interesting and interactive pop-up experience. STORY is the always-evolving concept store, now presenting “Home for the Holidays,” its annual gift guide. Through December 31st, STORY is offering more than 900 gifts from 200 small businesses and brands, including my own. You’ll see lots of offerings from my Macy's Collection, such as my Cabin in the Woods Collection of towels, mugs, canisters and other accessories, and of course, my book. It's truly a one-stop destination where you can find something for everyone on your list.
Enjoy these photos.
Here I am with the founder of STORY, Rachel Shechtman. We’re standing on the ground floor of Macy’s Herald Square just before viewing “Home for the Holidays.” Rachel and I have known each other for several years. She is a fourth-generation entrepreneur who loves finding the next big thing as much as she enjoys sharing it with others. Her vision for STORY was to create a retail concept that could connect brands and consumers by using the point of view of a magazine, changing displays like an art gallery, and selling merchandise like a store.
This year, “Home for the Holidays” incorporates stylized pop-up spaces that correspond to different gift recipients.

Here is David Stark, the chief creative officer of David Stark Design and Production. David designed all four rooms for this STORY display – a log cabin, with a roaring “fire”, an ice palace, a midcentury modern kitchen, and a child’s playroom. (Photo by Eugene Gologursky/Getty Images)
This room is decorated like a log cabin and includes gift ideas for the person who has everything, such as food-themed finds, entertaining gifts, whimsical games, and travel, office, and pet accessories. (Photo by Eugene Gologursky/Getty Images)
On this shelf – interesting games and technology accessories.
I am so proud of this book. We tried all sorts of new toppings, tested unusual flavor combinations, and made sure every single cookie is fun to make and above all – absolutely delicious. You’re sure to find lots of inspiration and ideas for making your cookies far more special for all your family and friends this season. (Photo by Eugene Gologursky/Getty Images)
And here I am with entertaining expert, artist, and author, Darcy Miller Nussbaum. Darcy is the former Editorial Director of Martha Stewart Weddings – we’ve known each other for many years. Her beautiful illustrations are on several walls of STORY.
Darcy’s new book, “Celebrate Everything: Fun Ideas to Bring Your Parties to Life” is also on display at STORY. This book is a great source for planning all your gatherings. There are hundreds of ideas and illustrations that will help make all your special occasions perfect. (Photo by Eugene Gologursky/Getty Images)
Many visitors loved walking through different displays – there are so many unique and interesting items. (Photo by Eugene Gologursky/Getty Images)

STORY implemented lots of “larger than life” size backdrops for fun social media postings – everyone loved taking pictures in front of these giant gift boxes with tags. (Photo by Eugene Gologursky/Getty Images)
On the left side of this shelf, it looks like apple pie but they’re really candles. STORY tries to offer items that are both fun and functional.
All the food was catered by my friend, Peter Callahan, including these fun juice boxes.
Everyone loves Kellog’s Rice Krispies Treats. These are sold at STORY, but they’re also featured at its DIY hosted parties for making Rice Krispies Treat gifts.
And here’s a photo of Rachel, David and me. David did a great job coming up with all these whimsical and inspiring holiday scenes. Please stop by Macy’s and check out STORY. Go to the Macy’s web site to find out the nearest store featuring this great holiday pop-up experience.
