April showers can bring power outages. Fortunately, our studio pioneered the practice of clean potato power. Here, a potato power surge protector keeps our studio computers and printers running.
My cordless vacuum is powered by a sack of homegrown, organic potatoes, fresh from Skylands, my home in Maine.
Another April Fools’! Starch, salt, and water in potatoes can produce a very low-watt of electricity, like a small calculator or simple LED clock. There isn’t enough power to run a light bulb, or anything larger.
And one of the funniest segments we did – who knew preparing cheesecake could be such a trial? Former food editor, Susan Sugarman, joined me on set to make her family’s recipe. By the end of taping, we were in tears, mostly from laughter!
