I had such a wonderful Thanksgiving, sharing a great meal with family and friends. The weekend continued with a variety of fun activities in and around the New York City area. I took my grandchildren for a delicious “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”, and saw the famous exhibition basketball team, The Harlem Globetrotters. I visited a beautiful riding complex in Brewster, New York. I went for a relaxing horseback ride around my farm, and spent a lovely afternoon in East Hampton. And, of course, ate lots of delicious holiday leftovers. Here are some photos - enjoy.
Tomorrow, I will share our company staff pictures from Thanksgiving - one of our favorite blogs of the year.
This iconic shade of blue is a dead giveaway for the location of this photo – I am standing at Tiffany’s with the signature robot made of Tiffany blue boxes. I took my grandchildren, Jude and Truman, to the store’s Blue Box Cafe for brunch.
Here is one of the windows at the famous store – the scene shows the construction of the robot out of many blue boxes.
The Blue Box Cafe is located on the 4th floor of the New York City flagship store. After perusing the entire menu, Jude and Truman both selected the Fifth Avenue Salad, which is Maine lobster, avocado, grapefruit, and poppyseed dressing – they loved it.
I had the Smoked Salmon and Bagel Stack with a cream cheese smear, beefsteak tomatoes, red onions and capers. Be sure to go to my Instagram page @MarthaStewart48 to see our dessert – the Blue Box cake.
After brunch, we went to Madison Square Garden to see the famous Harlem Globetrotters.
At one point, children were allowed to join the players on the floor. My grandson, Truman, is in there somewhere. He had so much fun.
Afterwards, we had the opportunity to meet some of the players. Here I am talking to Ice Hrynko and Thunder Law. Ice is one of two top female players who joined the roster this year. (Photo courtesy of Harlem Globetrotters)
And look at this fun photo of me spinning a ball on my finger – with a little help from Globetrotter, Cheese Chisolm. Also in this photo are Ice Hrynko, Hi-Lite Bruton and Thunder Law. We had a great time. If you’re in New York City when the Globetrotters are playing, I encourage you to go – you’ll love it. (Photo courtesy of Harlem Globetrotters)
If you were in the Northeast Thanksgiving Day, I’m sure you felt the cold – it only topped in the mid 20s. Back at the farm, the streams were frozen. During a horseback ride over the weekend, I took these interesting photos of the ice.
For flowing water to freeze, the temperature have to be exceptionally cold. As the water gets cold, it becomes denser and sinks in the water column. Just before it freezes, it becomes less dense and rises to the surface where it becomes solid. If you look closely, you can see the details in the ice crystals.
During the ride, I also saw this charming little squirrel perched on a tree branch enjoying one of the season’s acorns.
If you follow me on my Instagram page @MarthaStewart48, you may have seen photos of the “Cantitoe Blues Brothers” – my blue peacocks. Here they are strutting their tail feathers for the two peahens – the girls don’t really seem impressed right now, but it is still early for breeding season.
I was so pleased with how close I could zoom in on the peafowl with my phone – remember, I am on horseback.
And here are the “Blues Brothers” fanning their tails for all to see. These males spread out their eyespot tail feathers into a big fan and then shake them as they circle in front of the females – it is a gorgeous show of iridescent color.
Later that day I visited Buxton Farm – a boarding and training facility focused on hunters, jumpers and equitation. Here I am with my friend and writer, Ann Leary, my stable manager, Sarah Levins, and Ann’s mother, Judy Howe.
The farm’s world class 22-thousand square foot barn complex was designed by renowned architect, Jeff Pearson. It includes indoor and outdoor rings and is located on 286 bucolic acres of pastures, and woodlands.
Attached to the barn is a cathedral inspired 170-foot by 95-foot indoor arena.
I love the beautiful architecture of the ceiling.
Here is Ann with two of the smallest equine residents – Cookie and Cody, who were rescued earlier this year and are now mascots of the Buxton Farm.
During the weekend, I also drove out to East Hampton to check on my home, Lily Pond, and to visit my friend, actress Mariska Hargitay. Here she is in the kitchen of her antique farmhouse – maybe she’s preparing some delicious Thanksgiving leftovers.
These boys are ready for a very cold swim at the beach.
And can you guess this dog’s breed? It’s a Bernedoodle – a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. He stole everyone’s attention. It was a very enjoyable holiday weekend. What did you do the weekend after Thanksgiving? Share your stories with me in the comments section below.
