A Book Signing for "Vegetables" at New York City's STORY
The holiday shopping season is just around the corner. And, if you're looking for a great gift, pick up a copy of my latest book, "Martha Stewart's Vegetables”. It’s full of recipes and ideas for selecting, storing, preparing, and cooking all the delicious vegetables you love from the garden and from the market. You can order a copy by clicking on the highlighted link above.
Last weekend, I conducted a book signing at STORY - New York City’s ever-evolving concept store, now featuring “Home for the Holidays,” its annual gift guide. Through the end of the year, STORY is offering more than two-thousand gifts from 300 small businesses and brands, as well as exclusive gift items. It's where you can find something for everyone on your list.
The event was very successful - we sold more than 100-books at the downtown shop. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the customers, and seeing how eager they were to try the book's recipes. Enjoy our photos…
Here I am with founder and CEO of STORY, Rachel Shechtman. We’ve known each other for several years. Rachel is a fourth generation entrepreneur who loves finding the next big thing as much as she enjoys sharing it with others. Her vision for STORY was to create a retail concept that could connect brands and consumers by using the point of view of a magazine, changing displays like an art gallery, and selling merchandise like a store. http://thisisstory.com
The weather was very cooperative, and the crowd lined up through the store and around the block even before I arrived. (Photo from STORY)
Rachel’s staff greeted everyone as they entered.
It was so nice to see such an enthusiastic group of people excited about my latest book, “Vegetables”. Guests were instructed to pick up the book, get it signed, do some shopping and then pay for their purchases.

… “Martha Stewart’s Appetizers” – it was very nice to see them both on the shelf. Also on the shelf is a copy of “Russ and Daughters”, a book about one of my favorite family-operated food stores in New York.
STORY is located in a 2000-square foot space in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood. Every four to eight weeks, it features a new theme. “Home for the Holidays” provides one-stop-shopping through various rooms and specific displays: a living room for Her, a library for Him, a playroom for the Kids, and a kitchen with something for Everyone!
The name of the shop comes from its ever-evolving model where the entire shopping experience tells a STORY. (Photo from STORY)
As the shop filled with guests, Rachel welcomed everyone and gave me a very warm introduction.
I spoke about how I met Rachel, and how I knocked on the door one early morning before the store was opened – I was so intrigued by everything I saw through the window.
The guests were all so attentive.
And guess who popped in unexpectedly? Darcy Miller Nussbaum. She attended my book signing and later in the day, I attended hers for her new book, “Celebrate Everything: Ideas to Bring Your Party to Life” – another wonderful book I encourage all of you to purchase. http://www.darcymillerdesigns.com/bookshop/celebrate-everything/
Whenever I conduct book signings, I always try to stop for photos when possible – it’s very important to keep the line moving, but also to take time to meet with the customers. The gentleman on the left works at The Martha Stewart Center For Living at Mount Sinai Hospital. It was so exciting to talk to him about the Center – it is a place I hold very dear to my heart.
This gentleman made his leopard print jacket. I admired his oversized zipper and was very curious to know where he purchased it – he said at a shop in New York City’s garment district.
And, I always like to personalize the books I sign – it’s a detail that is very important to me. Some ask for specific notes, which I write when I can.
It was so nice to see people buying multiple books for gifts to family and friends.
I had the opportunity to talk to people about my products and to learn first hand feedback. This visitor told me about how her family loves my cookie recipes and has been using them for years.
And I also got a lovely visit from my granddaughter, Jude. Here I am talking to her about a card she wanted to buy — for her mommy.
Jude loved this hat – it comes with interchangeable pompoms.
Someone brought in their Martha Stewart holiday CDs for me to sign, along with the book. http://www.marthastewart.com/1504185/martha-stewarts-vegetables-new-cookbook
I alway enjoy knowing what everyone saves and treasures. (Photo from STORY)
