Holiday Memories: How I Celebrated New Year's Eve
Happy 2016! In the days ahead, I will share more of my memories from this season's holiday gatherings. For now, enjoy this festive encore blog post from January 03, 2013.
I want to wish all of you a very happy new year. I hope you spent the evening in a pleasant way. I have to admit that after a very relaxing and fun week in the Florida Keys, coming back to the cold - 80º to 20º - was a bit of a shock. So too, was the hubbub of New York City, where I celebrated New Year’s Eve. I met my good friend Memrie Lewis at Elio’s, a wonderful Upper East Side Italian eatery. Memrie is a landscape designer who has created fabulous gardens from Charleston to New York to Maine. She also designs terrace and rooftop gardens in New York City. She was joined at dinner by her lifelong friend, interior designer David Easton, author of Timeless Elegance: The Houses of David Easton. David has designed amazing houses all over the world. Also joining us was David’s longtime partner, artist James Steinmeyer, who renders David’s work in museum-quality watercolors. I invited my nephew, Christopher Herbert and his husband, Timothy Long, as well as Daisy Schwartzberg, my makeup artist to partake in the festivities.
