Betsy Perreten's Photos of my Farm
Betsy Perreten, my longtime stable manager, has a keen interest in photography and she’s always sharing her images with me. I asked her to put together a guest blog so that I could post some of her photos for all of you to enjoy. I think that it’s always fascinating to see familiar scenes through someone else’s lens. Betsy shoots with a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT and a Canon EOS Rebel T21.
- Betsy’s rescued cats, Blaze and Tipper, enjoy frolicking outdoors.
- A cool and refreshing drink from a hose
- What is Blaze looking for?
- A rushing stream deep in the woods
- The stone wall has been there for many, many years and was obviously built to accommodate the flowing water.
- Tipper is quite an agile climber.
- A very dramatic sky as seen from Betsy’s porch at the Maple Avenue house
- The tall spikes of Spanish bluebells
- A lupine being visited by a common eastern bumble bee, a great pollinator of flowers and numerous fruit and vegetable crops, including tomatoes, blueberries and cucumbers.
- Architectural details of the stable with a setting crescent moon
- Another great shot of Rinze – this time on vacation in Maine
- These spiders weave sheet-like webs and hang beneath them. Insects get caught on the sheet and the spider bites through the web to paralyze her prey, which is now her next meal.
- A thick, foggy morning at the stable
- The boxwood attracts sheet web spiders.
- An unfurling clematis bloom
- An autumn maple contrasted against an amazing deep blue sky
- Another day another view
- Autumn leaves through the wavy glass panes of the stable doors.
- More autumn through wavy glass
- A frost pattern on a big window in the stable
- And another
- A watchful eye
- A trail of an unidentified critter
- A view of a gurgling brook
- One of the hayfields taken from the woods
- These tracks across the field were actually made by Betsy’s snow shoes.
- Another silvery shot of downy snow upon the paddock fencing
- This red maple looks fantastic covered with snow. The photo is reminiscent of a black and white silver print, which Ansel Adams was famous for.
- Last spring’s fragrant hyacinths
- And my beautiful weeping cherry near the stable
- A very handsome portrait of Rinze outdoors in Bedford.
- Last week’s perigee moon rising taken from inside my stable – It was the biggest moon seen in 18 years – 14% bigger and 30% brighter to our eye.
