Last January, I reported that Eliad Laskin, my Social Media Content Director and Tech Guy, joined Stephen Rollins, our VP of Corporate Technology, and travelled to Las Vegas for the Consumer Electronics Show. The CES was so exciting and informative that Eliad and Steve opted to attend this year, as well. It’s always fascinating to try out the latest in technology and, as in previous years, there was no shortage of digital innovation. This year, tablets had a major presence and at this year’s show, attendance was notably up from last year - perhaps a sign that the economy is improving, somewhat. Enjoy part one!
The huge line for the Microsoft Keynote formed outside the Las Vegas Hilton.
A wristband was required to get in and once the wristbands were gone, no one else was admitted.
The large audience was seated and waiting for the keynote to begin.
The Keynote and CES was produced by the Consumer Electronics Association – CEA.
Microsoft was about to take center stage.
Gary Shapiro, President and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association, gave the welcoming address.
Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, began the presentation. Ballmer, has been with Microsoft since 1980, and is well-known for his charisma on stage.
He opened up by speaking about the new and exciting feautures of Xbox and its accessory, Kinect.
One of the humorous parts of his presentation was himself, speaking as an ‘Avatar’ on the big screen.
He also spoke about the Windows 7 phones.
Android tablet from Motorola called the ‘Xoom’ at only 1.5 pounds!
Intel unveiled new, powerful core processors this year.
Jessica Baker from LG Electronics demoed some great vacuums.
The Samsung section was another huge display in the hall.
Everyone was very impressed with the Samsung Galaxy Tablet.
Libertie Bridges demoed – It offers an elegant 7-inch touch screen running on Android.
One must always be on the lookout for robots while walking the floor at CES!

Adam Hanin demoed the Viewpad 7.

The GTU 10 – It has many applications and allows you to track anything, including your pet.
Jake from Garmin showed the latest in their lineup.
Garmin even has a GPS watch.

Asus always has something innovative and this year, it is the Asus Eee Pad slider.
And this tablet has a completely removable keyboard.
They also had a great looking Windows 7 tablet.
And how about their Lamborghini-inspired laptops? I know that Eliad loved those.
The following morning, CES was officially opened and was time to hit up the Central Hall.
Troubleshooting, repair, and diagnostic systems will also be included.
THINQ allows you to manage your appliances via your smartphone.
LG is touting a new technology called THINQ.
It’s designed to help you save electricity.
The next point of interest was the LG area.
And then the Motorola area
We bumped into Suzanne Kantra, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Techlicious LLC – and also a Martha Stewart Sirius/XM radio contributor.
Dolby Laboratories was showcasing some of their latest audio technology.
As usual, Microsoft had one of the largest displays.
Stephen gave it a listen.
There was a demo of the Microsoft Kinect – these folks were enjoying an energetic round of boxing.
There are many different varieties of new Windows 7 phones and many service providers. This one is from HTC.
Windows 7 phones have what is called ‘live tiles.’

3D TVs were improved upon this year.
Panasonic set up a 3D experience for visitors.
So ‘futuristic,’ although I remember similar glasses from my childhood days in the 1950s.
The Panasonic theater was amazing!
It’s always good to see a familiar face, or two.
Sirius/XM has a great new little listening device – The Sirius XM XPMP3H1 Portable Satellite Radio and MP3 Player.
Sharp also had a large area.
Sharp was touting the ‘Galapagos’ tablet, released in Asia only, so far.
The amazing Sharp video cube wall, which contains 64 60-inch LCD panels, offering a full range of view from floor, sides, and ceiling.
Imagine the possibilities! You’d never have to leave home.
The newest Samsung tablet is not on the market yet.
It features a flip-out keyboard.
Polaroid unveiled a new line of fashion sunglasses based on retro designs.
Lady Gaga, the new creative director of Polaroid, was present at CES to launch her newly designed GL20 Camera Glasses.
There was a great setup, which allowed visitors to actually try out some of their spectacular lenses.
