A visit to Stew Leonards, where my book signing last Saturday took place
If you’ve ever visited a Stew Leonard’s store, you know how different a shopping experience it is. Stew’s, as locals know it, is a small chain of supermarkets located in Connecticut and New York. Stew Leonard Sr., grew up in the dairy business and went from delivering milk to opening a store where customers could watch it being bottled. He also stocked a small inventory of other items to purchase. Like any good success story, his business grew but his vision remained focused with each expansion.
A large part of its success is due to the barn-like décor and the winding path. Rather than straight aisles, Stew’s has only one way to go so that every item stocked in the store must seen by the customer. Unlike the typical grocery store, Stew’s only stocks the things that sell the best. Ripley's Believe It or Not! has deemed Stew’s as being "The World's Largest Dairy Store".  What started out as a dairy store has grown into so much more and has received many accolades. Now, being run by Stew Leonard Jr., Fortune Magazine has deemed Stew Leonard’s as being one of the top "100 Best Companies to Work For". It is a popular destination for people visiting the area and I have certainly enjoyed shopping there throughout the years. Please have a look at my photos as I wandered through the store.
