The world of technology is evolving every day and shows no signs of slowing down. I love technology and am always excited to test new devices and learn about the latest features and applications.
Not long ago, I attended the 2019 “Made by Google” event at The Shed, New York City’s new Arts Center. More than 1000-guests gathered to hear about Google’s latest hardware - the Pixel Go Chromebook, the revamped Pixel Buds and Nest smart home equipment, and the new Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL smartphones. Google also announced a new video game streaming platform which is set to launch later this month. In addition, we also heard from the legendary photographer, Annie Leibovitz, who has been working with Google on her project, "Face Forward," shot exclusively on the Pixel phone - it was a very fun and informative event.
Here are some photos, enjoy.
The event theme colors were bright pastels – there were screens of pink, blue, orange, and mint everywhere.
Google held the morning event at The Shed – a performance hall at Hudson Yards whose retractable shell is the signature feature of the 200-thousand square-foot design by architect Diller Scofidio + Renfro and Rockwell Group.
The Shed is massive with many floors and event spaces. It is planned to host many cultural events including art, performance, film, design, food, fashion, and new combinations of cultural content.
Name tags were distributed in an array of colorful lanyards.
There was a giant screen at the front of the venue for all to view.
Here is Hilary Neve, Google’s head of cultural initiatives and influencer marketing. She was all dressed in the Google colors.
I also bumped into my friend, Kate Berry, former Style Director for “Martha Stewart Weddings”. We had front row seats in the packed room – every seat was taken.
Google senior VP of devices and services, Rick Osterloh, welcomed everyone to the event and announced the company’s latest generation of hardware.
We heard from Ivy Ross, Vice President of Hardware Design at Google. She explained the new Stadia gaming controller and how designers looked to home kitchen knives for inspiration on how comfortable the device should feel when being used – like holding a knife in your hands while cooking.
Sabrina Ellis from Google’s Product Management team spoke about the new Pixel 4 smartphones. Google’s Pixel 4 uses hybrid digital and optical zoom with both its lenses. It also features faster refresh rates, displays, and more sensitive touch screen mechanisms.
Google Engineer, Marc Levoy, talked about the phone’s camera app, which now offers dual-exposure controls for brightness and shadows, and machine-based white balancing to provide more accurate colors in challenging shooting scenarios.
And then we heard from acclaimed portrait photographer, Annie Liebovitz. Annie was interviewed by Google PR spokesperson, Lily Lin, and spoke about her newest series of portraits, shot exclusively on Google Pixel. Leibovitz helped in the development phases of the camera and used the new models for one full year.
After the event, I stopped for a photo with members of the Google team.
I was very excited to try the new Pixel 4 with its new, more advanced camera features. It is very user-friendly and took less than 30-minutes to set up.
The following photos were taken with the new Pixel 4 for this blog. Here is one of the changing leaves on my stand of American beech trees at the farm – the colors are so crisp.
Here’s another looking across one of my paddocks at the allee of linden trees. The rays of sunlight are visible from the sky.
This photo uses the “zoom” feature on the phone and shows the autumn trees across my large lower hayfield.
This photo was taken while walking through the woodland.
The camera captures so much detail. This is a view down one of my carriage roads to the lower hayfields.
And this photo taken from my Winter House terrace parterre shows my chicken coops in the distance. These smartphone cameras are getting better and better with every generation. I am looking forward to taking lots more photos and sharing them with all of you.
