Celebrating Season-9 of "Martha Bakes" on Facebook LIVE
I’m so thrilled - the ninth season of my television series, "Martha Bakes" premieres this weekend on PBS!
“Martha Bakes” is a half-hour show where I get to share my best tips and techniques for making all your favorite baked goods right at home. For this season, we decided to feature cookies from around the world. We taped “Martha Bakes” over the course of several days in the kitchen of one of the houses at my Bedford, New York farm. We also invited experts to join me and to share their baking expertise and well-loved cookie making ingredients. Yesterday, during my Facebook LIVE, I made two cookie recipes to celebrate the new season. We got lots of wonderful responses from our friends on Facebook - it was a very fun broadcast.
Big thanks to our wonderful sponsors, Domino Sugar, and Pyrex, who help make this show so successful. If you missed our Facebook LIVE, just click on this highlighted link. And, be sure to watch "Martha Bakes" on PBS - check your local listings for times. Enjoy these photos.
I am so excited about this new season of “Martha Bakes”. We made nearly 40 different cookies from around the world.
Yesterday, I made two delectable cookies during Facebook LIVE – Pfeffernusse and Iranian Rice Cookies. Here is a display of those cookies along with some other favorites we made during the season.
Thank you to Domino for being a steadfast sponsor and supporter of our Facebook LIVE broadcasts and my television show, “Martha Bakes”. Domino is used on the east coast, while their C&H brand sugar is used on the west coast. https://www.chsugar.com https://www.dominosugar.com
Many of you always ask where I tape various broadcasts. Our Facebook LIVE was taped in our studio kitchen at the historic Starrett Lehigh building. This is our beautiful Martha Stewart Living Turkey Hill Kitchen from The Home Depot. http://www.homedepot.com/c/SPC_BRD_MSL_Kitchen
For all our Facebook LIVE broadcasts, everything is placed on the counter ready to use.
Here I am preparing the dough for our Pfeffernusse cookie.
Pfeffernüsse are tiny spice cookies, popular as a holiday treat in Germany, Denmark, and The Netherlands, as well as among ethnic Mennonites in North America.
I also made Iranian Rice Cookies. These crumbly rice flour cookies are made using a sugar syrup infused with rose water, a classic ingredient in Middle Eastern sweets. Watch the video to see how I made the decorative grid pattern top of the cookie. (Photo by Mike Krautter)
These are called Goose Feet Cookies, which is pronounced in Russian as ‘gusinie lapki’. The name comes from the triangle shaped cookie which looks like a webbed goose foot. (Photo by Mike Krautter)
Some of the other cookies we make during the show include these Finnish Cream Cheese Star Cookies – popular during the holidays. These are also known as joulutorttu, which means Christmas tart in Finnish. (Photo by Mike Krautter)
Baci di Dama cookies from Italy are so scrumptious. Our version of Baci di Dama consists of two chocolate cookies cookies sandwiched together with a dollop of hazelnut filling. (Photo by Mike Krautter)
These are a Chocolate Mint Sandwich Cookies. These are great for any time of year – and kids love them.
There are three basic techniques for making meringue. Each one originates from a different European tradition depending on the extent to which the egg white foam is heated and the meringue’s resulting stability. These are French Meringues. (Photo by Mike Krautter)
Here I am with Anduin on one of the shoot days for this season-9 of “Martha Bakes” – we’re in my Maple Avenue kitchen at my Bedford farm. Anduin is in charge of all the set styling.
Here’s Kim Miller-Olko, our head of video development and executive producer of “Martha Bakes”. I have an excellent group of people who work with me to create the shows you watch on PBS – chefs, stylists, producers, and our technical camera crew. Everyone works very hard behind the scenes.
In my Flower Room, our test chefs watch the television shoot from a computer laptop. This lets them know when cookie swaps are needed on set – we make everything fresh for all my television shows.
I am fortunate to have multiple stove burners and ovens at my home. There is always plenty of room to cook and bake.
I love my stand mixers – here’s a row of them in my Flower Room – one is already being put to use for making dough for another cookie.
Jason Schreiber is a very talented pastry chef. Here he is preparing for another one of our “Martha Bakes” segments.
Here is a plate of cookies that are perfect to give on Valentine’s Day – just place them in a Pyrex container and wrap it in a big pink ribbon. I know you’re going to love this season of “Martha Bakes”. Be sure to tune in this weekend for our premiere episode.
