I always have so much fun placing Halloween and autumn decorations around my home.
Throughout the years, I’ve acquired many wonderful props to use around my house during these festive occasions, but I also enjoy making my own. During our recent Facebook LIVE, I shared some of my tips from our October issue of Living. I made our stenciled glass container, our fall decorated Funkin and our Indian corn wreath - all using our wonderful Martha Stewart Crafts supplies from Michaels, and some delicious M&Ms chocolates.
Our October issue of Living is filled with lots of ideas and inspirations for celebrating the fall season. http://www.marthastewart.com/854165/magazine-subscriptions
All this corn is from my garden – we had such a great season for decorative corn this year. My corn also has multi-colored kernels – lots of blue, yellow and red kernels. They look so pretty.
For this fall harvest Facebook LIVE, we are in the Martha Stewart Living “Turkey Hill Kitchen” at my New York City office. We’re using the corn to make an autumn wreath. http://www.homedepot.com/c/SPC_BRD_MSL_Kitchen
Whenever I use a hot glue gun, I always have a bowl of cold water nearby in case I get some glue on me – it’s a great tip for anyone who works with hot tools.
This corn makes a great wreath for a door or window – no bow needed. If you missed the show, you can still catch Facebook LIVE on our page. https://www.facebook.com/marthastewart/
If you’re having a Halloween party why not make some delicious caramel apples? My recipe os so easy. The ingredients include apples, sugar, corn syrup and whatever you’d like to use for the toppings. http://www.marthastewart.com/925884/caramel-apples
We have delicious milk chocolate M&Ms in all kinds of autumn colors – red, brown, yellow and a multi-colored combination.
These multi-colored M&Ms are also milk chocolate – my favorite.
We also have Maldon sea salt and chopped up cashews. Founded in 1882, England’s Maldon Salt Crystal Company still draws salt from seawater using traditional long-handled rakes, processing it with no artificial additives for flavor that’s pure and clean. http://www.maldonsalt.co.uk
We made some caramel earlier, but watch Facebook LIVE to see how I make this delicious sweet sauce.
After it is made, the caramel is transferred to a small metal bowl where it can cool for about three minutes, so the caramel thickens slightly.
Once it is ready, just dip the apple in caramel and then into the topping.
It’s that easy – make an assortment of different apples with different toppings.
Another idea that’s great for parties is a Funkin decoupaged with all sorts of leaves.
We are using my Martha Stewart Decoupage medium which is available at Michaels. http://www.michaels.com/brands/martha-stewart-crafts/marthastewartcrafts
We have fun craft punches at Michaels too and you can cut out leaves like these in different colored tissue paper.
Apply them with the decoupage medium and a brush. Watch the Facebook LIVE chat for more tips – it’s so easy to do and a great project for you and the kids.
These leaves go on one by one – and, the decoupage medium dries in about an hour.
And look how nice they are when done – just fill these Funkin with a bowl of M&Ms for all to enjoy.
These Martha Stewart Crafts stencils, pouncer and paint are also available from my line at Michaels. My crafts supplies are really useful and great for using on all your craft projects.
Just adhere the stencil on the surface with some removable tape, and then pounce with some Martha Stewart Crafts paint – update any glass container by using different colors, motifs and patterns. This pattern will be great for fall.
These glass jars are also great for parties because guests can see what is inside.
Such a nice display for your Halloween candy.
And, place some M&Ms in cellophane bags that are labeled and embellished with leaves – a great party favor or a place card.
Truman and Jude will love these bags, and so will Eddie, Billy and Oliver. Happy fall!
