A Busy Weekend in East Hampton and in Newport
A busy weekend of appearances, events, and book signings…
This past weekend was particularly busy for me. First, I went to East Hampton, New York to attend an awards ceremony. LongHouse Reserve, the not-for-profit art museum, sculpture garden, and art education organization, commended two prominent horticultural leaders at its biennial Landscape Awards Luncheon. I was honored to introduce my good friend, and modern-day plant explorer, Dan Hinkley, who was given the LongHouse Landscape Award. Elizabeth Scholtz, director emeritus of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden received the Garden Leadership Award. Following the ceremony, I conducted a book signing in nearby Bridgehampton, to promote my latest book, “Appetizers”.
The following day, I flew to Rhode Island for the 10th annual Newport Mansions Wine & Food Festival. Part of the Festival was held at the prestigious Marble House - the Gilded Age mansion formerly owned by Alva and William Kissam Vanderbilt, and now run by the Preservation Society of Newport County. While there, I joined legendary chef, Jacques Pepin, in a moderated conversation on food and entertaining, followed by another book signing.
But to start the weekend, I enjoyed a very pleasant evening at the stately ocean-front home of Robert Rosenkranz and Alexandra Munroe, who hosted a dinner for the LongHouse Reserve Landscape Awards honorees, and its dedicated patrons.
