Villa Necchi Campiglio, Part One
Right in the center of Milan sits a treasure of modern architecture and art.
It’s called Villa Necchi Campiglio - an extraordinary house designed by architect, Piero Portaluppi. It was originally built in 1932 for Angelo Campiglio, his wife, Gigina Necchi, and her sister, Nedda - members of the industrial Lombard upper class best known for inventing the famous enameled Necchi sewing machine.
After seeing some of the photos, some of you may recognize Villa Necchi Campiglio - the house later earned a role in Luca Guadagnino’s 2010 film, “I Am Love”, starring actress Tilda Swinton.
The home is now under the care of the non-profit foundation, Fondo Ambiente Italiano (the National Trust for Italy), and is open to the public for tours. I went to visit this fabulous home while I was in Italy last month. It was stunning. Take a look…
